Seychelles’ head coach Chris Yip-Au has a long-term vision for the national team. “If you look at the age of the squad, you can tell that it is a young one.” she said. “Even our opponents commented on how young our team is.”
The Seychelles squad faced tough losses recently, falling 0-9 to Mali and 1-5 to South Sudan in friendly matches. However, the coach remains optimistic about the team’s potential. “Our plans are for the long term. There is a lot of room for these young players to grow and develop. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and I’m not looking for quick fixes. I’m focused on building a sustainable team and unlocking their potential.”
The Seychelles women’s football community has also been discussing why the team chose to play friendlies outside of the country rather than participate in Olympic qualification. Additionally, questions have been raised about the absence of Natacha Bibi, who recently became the first Seychellois footballer to score a goal in Europe.
Despite the challenges, Coach Chris is confident in hers squad’s future. “I’m looking at building for sustainability and on potential. With time and continued development, this young team can achieve great things for Seychelles football.“
