In a highly anticipated clash at Stad Popiler, league leaders Muccia were held to a 1-1 draw by an impressive West Boys United side on Tuesday. After their commendable performance in the SFF Cup, West Boys United continued their positive momentum, surprising many with this hard-fought result.
The deadlock remained unbroken in a tightly contested first half, with both teams displaying resilience in defense. However, the second half proved to be more eventful. In the 62nd minute, Ivel Yves Brennan Belle of West Boys United broke the stalemate with a well-taken goal, giving his team a surprising 0-1 lead.
Undeterred, Muccia relied on the experience and skill of their talismanic player, Titus Cooper. In the 70th minute, Cooper showcased his brilliance by converting a beautiful free-kick, leveling the scoreline at 1-1. His contribution proved vital in securing a crucial point for Muccia CDS!
Bernard St Ange, Muccia CDS (Head Coach)
After the break, the Muccia team experienced a slight dip in their match fitness, which was evident in our performance during the first half. The game seemed to lack intensity and our play was somewhat sluggish. However, we took full responsibility in the second half and made three strategic substitutions, which significantly improved our pace and boosted our confidence on the field. We felt that we dominated a substantial portion of the match. Overall, I am genuinely satisfied with the team’s dedicated performance, particularly in the second half. It is important to note that we are a team representing a district-level community and the Perseverance team. We greatly appreciate the training facilities provided to us, which are essential for our preparations. We are thrilled by the support and encouragement we receive from MUCCIA supporters, the community, the team management, and our valued sponsors.
This draw marks the second consecutive stalemate for Muccia, putting their title aspirations in jeopardy. Should Baie Lazare win their upcoming match in hand, they would narrow the gap to the league leaders by a mere five points, reigniting the title race in Seychelles League 1.
Currently placed 6th in the league standings, West Boys United find themselves four points adrift of the position that leads to the promotion playoff games. Their determined performance against Muccia demonstrates their ambition to climb the ranks and contend for a higher place in the table.
Foreign football player Titus Cooper from Liberia celebrated his birthday in style by scoring a stunning free-kick to equalize the score to 1-1, and Seysoccer wishes him a very happy birthday! Here is the video of his remarkable goal – enjoy it!
