Rovers FC (Seychelles) Set to Compete in France Against European Powerhouses

Rovers FC has announced their participation in the esteemed Madewis Cup, held in Istres, France, from May 30th to June 2nd, 2024. This year, Rovers FC will field teams in the U11 and U12 age categories, offering Seychellois players an incredible opportunity to compete against international opponents.

The Madewis Cup is a renowned youth football tournament, gathering over 12,000 players aged 6 to 13 from around the world. Qualifying rounds are held throughout France, and the winners converge at the Super Final, where they face off against professional clubs.

In 2023, Rovers FC demonstrated their prowess in the U10 category, securing an impressive 6th place finish against formidable teams like Olympique de Marseille, Olympique Lyonnais, and Ajaccio. This year, Rovers FC expands their participation to include U11 and U12 teams, showcasing the academy’s growth and success.

Rovers FC remains committed to providing a pathway to professional football for their players. By competing in international tournaments like the Madewis Cup, Rovers FC players gain invaluable experience, challenging themselves against top young talents worldwide. Notable participants this year include AC Milan, Benfica, Galatasaray, and FC Dallas.

Following last year’s Madewis Cup, Rovers academy selected U11 and U12 players competed in the U13 National League in Seychelles, facing opponents one to two years older. This strategic decision aimed to expose them to stronger competition, better preparing them to compete against the world’s best.

To prepare for the Madewis Cup, both teams will undergo an intensive week-long training camp in France. This crucial pre-tournament phase includes training sessions and test matches against esteemed clubs and academies like Olympique de Marseille.

Continued exposure to high-level international football is paramount for the young Seychellois players as they once again represent Rovers and their nation on the global stage.
